Blanket Challenge 5

This was my first time using the Red Heart Ombre yarn. It's not bad yarn, not my favorite yarn though either. The color is really pretty. It's easy to work with, almost no splitting. But it's not as soft as I had hoped. (I prefer the Caron Ombre yarn)

MATERIALS

  • Red Heart Super Saver Ombre’ (100% Acrylic, 482 yards / 440 meters, 10 ounces / 283 grams) Color: Violet - 5 skeins

  • Other Yarn Options: any worsted weight yarn.


HOOKS & SUPPLIES

  • Hook US I9 / 5.5 mm

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

  • Measuring Tape

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)

GAUGE

  • 9 stitches = 4”, first 8 rows = 4”


FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

  • One Size: 45” x 55”


PATTERN KEY (US Terms)

  • altch2 = alternate chain 2

  • ch = chain

  • dc = double crochet

  • fsc = foundation single crochet

  • sc = single crochet

  • slst = slip stitch

  • sp(s) = space(s)

  • st(s) = stitch(es)


SPECIAL STITCHES & TECHNIQUES

  • 2dctog: YO, insert hook in the space indicated and YO again, pull yarn through, YO and pull through first 2 loops on hook, YO, insert your hook into the same space that you started in, YO, pull yarn through, YO, pull through first 2 loops. YO one last time, without inserting your hook into the space, and pull through all the remaining loops on your hook.

PATTERN NOTES

  • - Repeat instructions between the asterisks.

  • ( ) - All stitches in the brackets are worked in the same stitch or chain space.

  • Turn at the end of each row.

  • The altch2 is the first double crochet in the row.

  • The chain 1 spaces do not count as stitches.

  • The chain 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.


 

INSTRUCTIONS


Row 1: fsc 151 (or any multiple of 6 + 1)

Optional Row 1: ch 152 (or any multiple of 6 + 2), sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across. (151 sts)


Rows 2 & 3: altch2, dc in each st across. (151 sts)


Row 4: ch 1, sc in the first st and each st across.


Row 5: altch2, dc in the next 3 sts, 2dctog around the last 2 dc made, skip 2 sts, (dc, ch 1, dc) in the next st, skip 1 st, dc in the next 2 sts, 2dctog around the last 2 dc made across, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 6: altch2, dc in the next 4 sts, skip 1 st, (dc, ch 1, dc) in the next ch sp, skip 1 st, dc in the next 3 sts across, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 7: altch2, dc in the next 3 sts, 2dctog around the last 2 dc made, skip 2 sts, (dc, ch 1, dc) in the next ch sp, skip 1 st, dc in the next 2 sts, 2dctog around the last 2 dc made across, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 8: ch 1, sc in the first 6 sts, sc in the next ch sp, sc in the next 5 sts across, sc in the last st.


Row 9: altch2, dc in each st across.


Row 10: ch 1, sc in each st across.


Row 11: altch2, dc in the next 3 sts, 2dctog around the last 2 dc made, skip 2 sts, (dc, ch 1, dc) in the next st, skip 1 st, dc in the next 2 sts, 2dctog around the last 2 dc made across, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 12: altch2, dc in the next 4 sts, skip 1 st, (dc, ch 1, dc) in the next ch sp, skip 1 st, dc in the next 3 sts across, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 13: altch2, dc in the next 3 sts, 2dctog around the last 2 dc made, skip 1 st, (dc, ch 1, dc) in the next ch sp, skip 1 st, dc in the next 2 sts, 2dctog around the last 2 dc made across, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 14: ch 1, sc in the first 6 sts, sc in the next ch sp, sc in the next 5 sts across, sc in the last st.


Row 15: altch2, dc in each st across.


Rows 16 - 105: Repeat Rows 10 - 15. (15 times)


Row 106: altch2, dc in each st across.


Row 107: ch 1, sc in each st across.


Fasten off, weave in ends.
