Vertigo Beanie & Cowl

Updated: Apr 11, 2024

Sometimes I see a crochet stitch diagram, save it on Pinterest, & keep it in the back of my mind for a future pattern. What that pattern will be can be a mystery for months and months. Sometimes I don't figure it out for a year or more! It has to be the right yarn & I have to be in the mood to experiment.

I had this stitch pattern in the back of my mind for quite a while. Finally I decided I would make a cowl with the stitch pattern and some left over yarn. Once the cowl was done I thought it might work on a beanie! Why not give it a try. Had to be different colors & yarn as I had run out of the yarn I used for the cowl.

For the beanie pattern I used Bernat Premium yarn.

Bernat Premium (100% Acrylic, 360 yards / 329 meters, 7 oz / 198 g) 2 colors per beanie: 275 - 350 yds per beanie

For the cowl I used Paintbox yarn.

Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran (100% Acrylic, 201 yards / 184 meters, 3.5 ounces 100 grams) 2 skeins: 1 color per skein

The first couple of rounds for the pattern are a bit tricky but once you have done the row repeat a few times it starts to make sense. I would say that the patterns are Advanced Beginner/Intermediate.

Catherine (one of the pattern testers) created this beautiful set.

This is what she had to say about the pattern:

This set works up quickly once you get to know the pattern repeat. It's a bit tricky at first but follow the well written instructions and you'll soon get the project going! I think any colour combination will work, even one solid colour as it has lovely texture and stitch definition. Good pattern to start to improve crochet skills.

LLuvercky (another pattern testers) created this set in very pretty colors.

This is what she had to say about the pattern/test:

The Vertigo Set is a beautiful new design that won’t be boring with easy stitches for great visual and nice texture. So glad to have tested this one.

Gorgeous stitch pattern. I think I’d do a blue/brown and a purple/white!

I would try a grey /black or black/white or Xmas colors, red/green. I don't really think you can go wrong. It looks like a fun pattern.
