Spikey Cowl & Scarf
MATERIALS
Bernat Premium (100% Acrylic, 360 yards / 329 meters, 7 oz / 198 g) 360 - 700 yds, depending on how many colors you use.
Other Yarn Options: most #4 weight yarns.

Hook US H8 / 5.00 mm

14 stitches = 4”, first 14 rows = 4”

Scarf: 72” x 7” without the fringe

PATTERN NOTES
- Repeat instructions between the asterisks.
Cowl: Working in the round, join with a slip stitch at the end of each round.
Scarf: Turn at the end of each row.
Chain spaces do not count as stitches.
The chain 1 at the beginning of the round/row does not count as a stitch.
COWL
INSTRUCTIONS
COLOR 1
Round 1: fsc 81 (or any odd number), join as per video. (82 sts)
Optional Round 1: ch 82 (or any even number), being careful not to twist the chain, join the ends, ch 1, sc in the first st and each st around. Join. (82 sts)
Round 2: ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (82 sts)
COLOR 2
Round 3: ch 1, sc in the first st, ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in the next st, ch 1, skip 1 st around. Join. TURN (41 sts)
Round 4: ch 1, sc in the first ch sp, ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in the next ch sp, ch 1, skip 1 st around. Join. TURN (41 sts)
COLOR 1
Round 5: ch 1, hdc in the first ch sp, dc in the skipped st 2 rounds below, hdc in the next ch sp, dc in the skipped st 2 rounds below around. Join. (82 sts)
Round 6: ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (82 sts)
COLOR 2
Rounds 7 - 34: Repeat Rounds 3 - 6 with color changes.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
SCARF
INSTRUCTIONS
COLOR 1
Row 1 (RS): fsc 231 (or any odd number). (231 sts)
Optional Row 1: ch 232 (or any even number), sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across. (231 sts)
Row 2 (WS): ch 1, sc in each st across. (231 sts)
COLOR 2
Row 3 (RS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in the next st across, sc in the last st.
Row 4 (WS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, sc in the next ch sp, ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in the next ch sp across, sc in the last 2 sts.
COLOR 1
Row 5 (RS): ch 1, hdc in the first 2 sts, dc in the skipped st 2 rows below, hdc in the next ch sp, dc in the skipped st 2 rows below across, hdc in the last 2 sts.
Row 6 (WS): ch 1, sc in the first st and each st across.
COLOR 3
Row 7 (RS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in the next st across, sc in the last st.
Row 8 (WS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, sc in the next ch sp, ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in the next ch sp across, sc in the last 2 sts.
COLOR 1
Row 9 (RS): ch 1, hdc in the first 2 sts, dc in the skipped st 2 rows below, hdc in the next ch sp, dc in the skipped st 2 rows below across, hdc in the last 2 sts.
Row 10 (WS): ch 1, sc in the first st and each st across.
COLOR 4
Rows 11 - 26: Repeat Rows 7 - 10 changing colors every 2 rows.
NOTE: All of the dc spike stitches are on the same side.
Fasten off, add fringe.
