Scarf Challenge 22

This scarf was so much fun! It's a little challenging for the first couple of rows, but once you get the hang of it - it's fairly quick and easy to do. I used my favorite yarn for this one, needed to use up the brown, it's such a hard color to work with and match up. I think it looks pretty good with the iced aqua :)

MATERIALS

  • Bernat Premium (100% Acrylic, 360 yards / 329 meters, 7 oz / 198 g) 2 skeins

  • Other Yarn Options: Caron One Pound, Red Heart With Love, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, Lion Brand Heartland, Red Heart Roll with It, Red Heart Super Saver, Caron Big Cakes, most #4 weight yarns.

HOOKS & SUPPLIES

  • Hook US H8 / 5.00 mm

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

  • Measuring Tape

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)

GAUGE

  • 13 sc stitches = 4”, first 13 rows = 4”

SIZES

  • 6.25” x 70”

  • altch2 = alternate chain 2

  • ch = chain

  • chs = chains

  • dc = double crochet

  • fsc = foundation single crochet

NOTES

  • * * - Repeat instructions between the asterisks.

  • Turn at the end of each row.

  • Either carry the yarn along the edge of the scarf, or fasten off at each color change.

  • Chain spaces do not count as stitches.

  • The altch2 is the first double crochet in the row.

  • The chain 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.

 

INSTRUCTIONS


COLOR A

Row 1: fsc 211 (or any multiple of 7 + 1)

Optional Row 1: ch 212 (or any multiple of 7 + 2), sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across. (211 sts)


Row 2 (WS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, ch 7, skip 4 sts, * sc in the next 3 sts, ch 7, skip 4 sts * across until 2 sts remain, sc in the last 2 sts.


COLOR B

Row 3 (RS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, working behind the chs, hdc in the next 4 sts, * sc in the next 3 sts, working behind the chs, hdc in the next 4 sts * across until 2 sts remain, sc in the last 2 sts.


Row 4 (WS): ch 1, sc in each st across.


COLOR A

Row 5 (RS): altch2, dc in the next st, ch 3, sc around the ch 7, ch 3, * skip 4 sts, dc in the next 3 sts, ch 3, sc around the ch 7, ch 3 * across until 2 sts remain, dc in the last 2 sts.

Row 6 (WS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, ch 7, skip 1 sts, * sc in the next 3 sts, ch 7, skip 1 sts * across until 2 sts remain, sc in the last 2 sts.


COLOR B

Row 7 (RS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, working behind the chs, tr in the 4 skipped sts 3 rows below, * sc in the next 3 sts, working behind the chs, tr in the 4 skipped sts 3 rows below * across until 2 sts remain, sc in the last 2 sts.


Row 8 (WS): ch 1, sc in each st across.


COLOR A

Row 9 (RS): altch2, dc in the next st, ch 3, sc around the ch 7, ch 3, * skip 4 sts, dc in the next 3 sts, ch 3, sc around the ch 7, ch 3 * across until 2 sts remain, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 10 (WS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, ch 7, skip 1 sts, * sc in the next 3 sts, ch 7, skip 1 sts * across until 2 sts remain, sc in the last 2 sts.


COLOR B

Row 11 (RS): ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, working behind the chs, tr in the 4 skipped sts 3 rows below, * sc in the next 3 sts, working behind the chs, tr in the 4 skipped sts 3 rows below * across until 2 sts remain, sc in the last 2 sts.


Row 12 (WS): ch 1, sc in each st across.


COLOR A

Rows 13 - 20: Repeat Rows 9 - 12 with color changes.


COLOR A

Row 21 (RS): ch 1, sc in the first 3 sts, sc in the next 2 sts enclosing the ch 7, * sc in the next 5 sts, sc in the next 2 sts enclosing the ch 7 * across, sc in the last 3 sts.


Row 22 (WS): ch 1, sc in each st across.


Fasten off, weave in ends.
