Cowl Challenge 3

MATERIALS

  • Bernat Premium (100% Acrylic, 360 yards / 329 meters, 7 oz / 198 g) 250 - 325 yds

  • Other Yarn Options: Caron One Pound, Red Heart With Love, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, Lion Brand Heartland, Red Heart Roll with It, Red Heart Super Saver, Caron Big Cakes, most #4 weight yarns.

HOOKS & SUPPLIES

  • Hook US H8 / 5.00 mm

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

  • Measuring Tape

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)

GAUGE

  • 13 dc stitches = 4”, first 10 rows = 4”

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

  • One Size: 26” x 9”

PATTERN KEY (US Terms)

  • altch2 = alternate chain 2

  • blo = back loop

  • ch = chain

  • dc = double crochet

  • flo = front loop

  • fsc = foundation single crochet

  • hdc = half double crochet

  • sc = single crochet

  • slst = slip stitch

  • sp(s) = space(s)

  • st(s) = stitch(es)

PATTERN NOTES

  • * * - Repeat instructions between the asterisks.

  • Working in the round, join with a slip stitch at the end of each round.

  • The altch2 is the first double crochet in the round.

  • Chain spaces do not count as stitches.

  • Carry the yarn on the inside of the cowl.

 

INSTRUCTIONS


COLOR A

Round 1: fsc 79 (or any multiple of 8 + 7), join as per video. (80 sts)

Optional Round 1: ch 80 (or any multiple of 8), join without twisting the chain, ch 1, sc in the first st and each st around. (80 sts)


Round 2: altch2, dc in each st around. Join. (80 sts)


Round 3: altch2, dc in the next 5 sts, dc blo in the next st, * dc in the next 7 sts, dc blo in the next st * around, dc in the last st. Join.


COLOR B

Round 4: ch 1, sc in the first 6 sts, ch 3, slst into the flo 2 rows below, ch 3, skip 1 st, * sc in the next 7 sts, ch 3, slst into the flo 2 rows below, ch 3, skip 1 st * around, sc in the last st. Join.

COLOR A

Round 5: ch 1, sc in the first 6 sts, hdc in the skipped st, * sc in the next 7 sts, hdc in the skipped st * around, sc in the last st. Join.


Round 6: altch2, dc in each st around. Join.(80 sts)


Round 7: altch2, dc in the next st, dc blo in the next st, * dc in the next 7 sts, dc blo in the next st * around, dc in the last 5 sts. Join.


COLOR B

Round 8: ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, ch 3, slst into the flo 2 rows below, ch 3, skip 1 st, * sc in the next 7 sts, ch 3, slst into the flo 2 rows below, ch 3, skip 1 st * around, sc in the last 5 sts. Join.


COLOR A

Round 9: ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, hdc in the skipped st, * sc in the next 7 sts, hdc in the skipped st * around, sc in the last 5 sts. Join.


Round 10: altch2, dc in each st around. Join. (80 sts)


Repeat Rounds 3 - 10 until desired length.

NOTE: You can end on either Round 6 or Round 10.


Last Round: ch 1, sc in each st around. Join.


Fasten off, weave in ends.

Absolutely beautiful Audrey!! I just love the little stitches that look like hearts on it! They add such interest! I don't know how you keep coming up with so many new and amazing patterns still! I would have maybe gotten to, maybe 3, and been like, yup, I'm tapped, lol. Have a Great day!
