Free Back Button Ear Warmer Pattern

This pattern is part of the Gobal Crochet Collaboration.

A quick project that doesn’t use that much yarn. Great in a solid color but would look very nice in self striping yarn. Quick 2 row repeat for the main section. Sew on the button for decoration or add the button hole.

MATERIALS

• Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn! (100% Acrylic, 355 yards / 325 meters, 7 ounces / 199 grams) Colors:  Periwinkle, Light Sage - 75 yards.

• Optional Yarn: Any worsted weight yarn.

HOOKS & SUPPLIES

• Hook US H8 / 5.00 mm

• Scissors

• Yarn Needle

• Measuring Tape

• Stitch Marker (Optional)

  
  

GAUGE

• 16 stitches = 4”, first 13 rows = 4”

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

• One size: 21” x 4”

PATTERN KEY (US Terms)

• blo = back loop only

• ch = chain

• dc = double crochet

• flo = front loop only

• hdc = half double crochet

• RS = right side

• sc = single crochet

• sp(s) = space(s)

• st(s) = stitch(es)

• WS = wrong side

SPECIAL STITCHES & TECHNIQUES

• sc2tog: Insert hook into the first stitch, YO, pull up a loop. You should now have two loops on your crochet hook. Insert your crochet hook into the next stitch in the row, YO, pull up a loop. You should now have three loops on your crochet hook. YO, pull the yarn through all three loops on your crochet hook.

Row 1: ch 6, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and across. (5 sts)

Row 2 – 5: ch 1, sc in each st across. (5 sts)

Row 6: ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st, sc in the last 2 sts. (6 sts)

Row 7: ch 1, sc in each st across. (6 sts)

Row 8: ch 1, sc 2 sts, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts, sc 2 sts. (8 sts)

Row 9: ch 1, sc in each st across. (8 sts)

Row 10: ch 1, sc 3 sts, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts, sc 3 sts. (10 sts)

Row 11: ch 1, sc in each st across. (10 sts)

Row 12: ch 1, sc 4 sts, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts, sc 4 sts. (12 sts)

Row 19 (WS): ch 1, hdc in the first st, hdc flo in the next st, hdc blo in the next st across until 1 st remains, hdc in the last st.

Rows 20 - 43: Repeat Rows 18 & 19.

Decrease Rows

Row 44: ch 1, sc in each st across. (16 sts)

Row 45: ch 1, sc 6 sts, sc2tog twice, sc 6 sts. (14 sts)

Row 46: ch 1, sc in each st across. (14 sts)

Row 47: ch 1, sc 5 sts, sc2tog twice, sc 5 sts. (12 sts)

Row 48: ch 1, sc in each st across. (12 sts)

Row 49: ch 1, sc 4 sts, sc2tog twice, sc 4 sts. (10 sts)

Row 50: ch 1, sc in each st across. (10 sts)

Row 51: ch 1, sc 3 sts, sc2tog twice, sc 3 sts. (8 sts)

Row 52: ch 1, sc in each st across. (8 sts)

Row 53: ch 1, sc 2 sts, sc2tog twice, sc 2 sts. (6 sts)

Row 54: ch 1, sc in each st across. (6 sts)

Row 59: ch 1, sc 2 sts, ch 2, skip 1 st, sc 2 sts. (4 sts)

Row 60: ch 1, sc 2 sts, sc 1 st in ch 2 space, sc 2 sts. (5 sts)

Row 61: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in the next st, sc2tog. (3 sts)

Finish: Fasten off. Weave in ends and add button.
