Bashful Armadillo Yarn

While I was on holidays in Texas I happened to be able to attend a fiberfest in Bandera. What fun! There were so many vendors with stunning hand dyed yarn. I really had to pace myself so that I didn't buy something from everyone lol.

One of the vendors was Bashful Armadillo Fibers out of Corpus Christi.

It was super hard trying to figure out which colors to purchase! Tammy's display was beautiful with a large selection of yarn weights and colors. I finally decided on the colors above. The 2 on the right are aran weight and the 3 on the left are more of a light aran/dk weight.

My first pattern was an infinity scarf with the aran weight yarn. I knew that I wanted to do something with stripes. (click on the photo for the pattern).

Bashful Armadillo Worsted/Aran (100% Extrafine Superwash Merino, 181 yards / 166 meters, 100 grams) Color A (Verdant Season) 1 skein, Color B (Winter Solstice) 1 skein

The 2nd pattern using the other 3 colors was way more difficult to come up with. After many hours of looking at stitch patterns, playing with the yarn & unravelling I finally decided on a triangle scarf. I wanted to use more simple stitches so I could show off the yarn. (click on the photo for the pattern).

Bashful Armadillo (100% Extrafine Superwash Merino, 181 yards / 166 meters, 100 grams) Color A (Heart of Gold) 1 skein, Color B (Sheepwalk Sunset) 1 skein, Color C (A Pinot for Your Thoughts) 1 skein

All the yarn is beautiful! I love the way it feels, it's nice and soft yet smooth. It's very easy to work with, no splitting or fraying after a lot of unravelling and crocheting. The drape is very nice as well. Either yarn would make a beautiful shawl, top, scarf.... the possibilities are endless.

The scarf patterns can be purchased for 25% off. Coupon code: Patterns25Off

I asked Tammy to answer a few "interview" questions so we could get to know her and the business better.

Company Name, your name, where you are located.

Bashful Armadillo Fibers, Tammy Conolly, located Corpus Christi, TX

What made you decide to dye yarn?

I was encouraged to dye yarn by a woman I worked for in a local yarn shop. I showed her some yarn I'd dyed while playing around with Kool-aid. She told me if I got some real dyes, she would put my yarn in her shop. She did and it sold well so she told me that I "need to be doing this all the time." The rest, as they say, is history.

What inspires you when choosing colors and/or color combinations.

I am most inspired by things I see in nature, like wildflowers, parks, etc. I have an artist friend who has a couple of paintings that have inspired me. I even have a colorway that was inspired by a paper plate painting done by my 4-year-old grandson. Sometimes, I just get into my studio and play with color.

Do you have a favorite yarn base you like to work with?

At this time I'm working with an Extrafine Superwash Merino. I really love it but eventually I hope to be incorporating other fibers and blends into my stock.

Do you knit or crochet?

I knit and crochet!. I prefer knitting, though. I just like the look and feel of it more. No offense to the crocheters out there, I've seen some patterns that have got me considering picking up a hook again!

Where can everyone purchase your yarn?

My yarn can be purchased at www.bashfularmadillofibers.com.

What are your social media links?

I'm on Instagram (@bashfularmadillofibers) and Facebook (Bashful Armadillo) and post when I'll be at a fiber festival.

Do you ship worldwide? If not, where do you ship?

At this time, I do not ship worldwide, but I will ship into Canada and of course all over the US.

I encourage folks to go to the website and sign up with their email. When I do have a sale or show a new colorway, my email subscribers are the first to know, sometimes the only ones to know. I don't send out many emails. In fact I send out less than one a month. Following me on IG and FB will also be a great place to know when yarn is on sale and what fiber festivals I'll be at.

Thank you for sharing. I really like the Kindred Spirit, the overall look and the colors. Although to be honest it doesn't make me think of Winter Solstice at all, but it is lovely nonetheless.
