Selling Patterns on Pinterest

I have been trying to learn about Pinterest. It can be a struggle finding good information (for free). Sometimes you pay for help that really doesn't tell you anything you don't already know. And sometimes the "free" help is about the same. So I have been experimenting with Pinterest.

One thing I do know for sure is that you need to pin consistently: every day, or twice a day, or 4 times a week - doesn't matter, just has to be the same. Pinning once a week may even work if you do it every week. But as far as I can tell, at least once a day is a very good way to get seen on Pinterest. Yes - there are people who say you need to do 10 pins a day, they either have help, or don't spend any time on their business lol. I do not have that kind of time to spend. Oh - they probably use a scheduler, I have tried those, not for me. You have to do what works for you. (I will be saying this a lot)

Also you need to know that Pinterest always wants new pins. That doesn't mean you can't do the same pattern link, just means you need a different photo & graphic. That's where Canva comes in. They have a huge variety of designs to choose from for everything. I do have the paid version, but the free version would be all you need. Just add your photo, change the wording and you have a pin-able graphic. They don't have to be fancy, in fact I prefer simple designs that show the pattern with just a few words.

So this morning, while doing laundry here at the campground, I picked 7 different canva graphics for Pinterest and made 103 pins to use over the next 51 days. All of the photos I have taken for my patterns over the past 3 years are on this computer. This morning I made pins for the patterns I created in 2022. (no I didn't publish 103 patterns in 2022, will pin the patterns more than once over the next 3 months). When I have used all of those pins, I will move on to 2023 etc.

There are some crochet pattern designers who want all of their pins to look exactly the same so people know who they are, but I know for myself that yes I recognize who the designer is, but I don't necessarily look any further then that. So I try to use different graphics each day. I think it's different for everyone, you need to figure out what works for you.

I have been experimenting a bit these past 2 months. In the mornings I pin to my Ravelry store or website, Etsy pins in the evening. Never used to get "cold" purchases on Ravelry until this week, they are starting to pick up a bit. I have even had a sale or two this past month on my website! I have been pinning daily from my Etsy shop for over 2 years now and it makes a huge difference. Yes, there are still slow sales months from March - August, but I still pin every day.

Why spend more time promoting my Etsy? People on Etsy know they have to pay for a pattern. I feel that people on Ravelry are just looking for free patterns first.

Oh! One more thing! When you are filling in the title and description to your pin, make sure you use some of the words that are on your graphic. If it says Baby Blanket on the graphic, use those words in the title & description. Apparently Pinterest will put that all together and know you are putting in an effort.

Also, I'm experimenting with "Tag topics". Hadn't really known what they were for, but apparently you can add tags to your pin. No one sees them, but they will help you get found if people search for your tag. Start typing in the tag and pick a suggested one. Not sure how/if they will make a difference, will probably take a few months to find out.

I know..... you just don't have time to pin every day, so just do what works for you & when you have time. And it does take months to see the results of pinning daily. For me I think it took close to 6 months to see my sales go up from Pinterest.

Once the pins are made and saved to my computer, it's 5 minutes in the morning & 5 minutes in the evening. I pin to some of my own boards and some group boards.

I'm still learning about Pinterest, and experimenting. It never seems to end. lol All I know for sure is that it's getting sale for me & I would love you to learn how to use it and get sales as well!
